Yodogawa Christian Hospital (YCH) was founded by Presbyterian Church in the United States in 1955. Within its long history, the hospital has been at the forefront in many different areas of medical care. YCH has provided leadership in various special areas such as Blood Exchange Transfusions for blood incompatibilities, the development of a unique Medical Social Work office, long term rescue work following the severe Isewan Typhoon, the introduction of hospital volunteer activities, the successful separation of Siamese twins, and pioneering work in the establishment of a Hospice ward for cancer patients.
In accord with the vision of Dr. Frank A. Brown, the founder and first superintendent, this hospital has attempted through the years to focus on the basic ideal and concept of "Whole Person Healing, a medical ministry in Christ's love, serving the patient as a total unity of body, mind and spirit".
I believe that through the Presbyterian Church in the U.S., God Himself sowed the seed for this medical endeavor with the spirit of Christianity and that God has enabled it to grow and develop. It is my earnest desire to maintain and develop the concept of Whole Person Healing in Christ, which was placed at the center by the founder and has been deeply valued ever since.
However, with the present extended economic depression and with major structural adjustments required by the government, hospitals are forced to adjust to the new medical system. The reality is that all medical facilities face difficulties.
While the climate of the present day is severe, nevertheless as a hospital attempting to collaborate harmoniously with the medical facilities in our local, we strive both to provide efficient service as an emergency hospital and to maintain good relationships with these local medical facilities. It is my hope that we will continue to work toward establishing a strong relationship of trust with both the patients and doctors of this area.
